          Welcome!

The  view  from Putney Mountain.... I don't  know of a more beautiful place than Vermont ... and more  wonderful people !

Welcome to the Web Site  for

Mike Mrowicki,Vermont State Representative for Windham 5 District -Westminster, Putney and Dummerston-The Heart of Vermont's  "Southeast Kingdom".

Putney's George Aiken coined  the phrase,"Northeast Kingdom" to bring attention to  that beautiful, and often forgotten part of our  great state of  Vermont.

Over  the years, some Northern Vermonters seem to act as if we don't  exist down here...almost  as if  they think Vermont's southern boundary starts somewhere around  Rutland  and goes  across  to White River Junction.

Well, that just isn't  so. I'm working  hard  to join my voice with our  other southern legislators to make sure the people of the "Southeast" Kingdom are better remembered  around  the state.

 Keeping the Peace...

Progressive Democrats of America are working to keep the movement towards peace in this campaign. With the Healthcare not Warfare Petition, we're bringing this message to the Democratic convention this week.
To sign the petittion, visit the website
www.pdamerica.org

On the site ,there is also information about the "Million Doors for Peace action , to take place on September 20. Across America, citizens will be going door to door with the message of Peace.

As Martin Luther King Jr. observed forty years ago, "A nation that continues year after year to spend more money on military defense than on programs of social uplift is approaching spiritual death." While the insurance and pharmaceutical industries post huge profits, the U.S. health care crisis grows steadily worse.

Today, nearly one in six Americans has no health insurance. Tens of millions of others are woefully under-insured. Meanwhile the war in Iraq drains our resources and overburdens our budget. Our government's duty is to protect us--security begins with our health and well-being at home. In 2008, we have an historic opportunity to turn from warfare to health care for all.

We call on the Democratic Party at all levels--in party platforms and resolutions--to commit to redirecting wasteful and unnecessary military spending to meet human needs. This commitment must start with comprehensive, guaranteed health care--driven by the needs of patients and the judgment of doctors. We call on Democrats to support a plan that eliminates any financial barriers between the patient and healthcare providers, resulting in a patient not receiving medically necessary care.

We call on members of Congress to bring the troops home from Iraq and to pass H.R. 676, Rep. John Conyers' bill which guarantees comprehensive publicly-funded, privately-delivered health care for everyone in the U.S.

Prior to the Democratic National Convention in Denver, this petition will be delivered to Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, DNC Chair Howard Dean and your member of Congress.

Working Together For You...

Now We Just Need a New Governor !

July  14, 2008     from Brattleboro Reformer

Alongside the newest of the safety concerns emanating from the Entergy Louisiana nuclear plant in Vernon, is another elephant in our collective living room. Vermonters could get stuck with the costs of decommissioning this aging plant because of Gov. Doulglas’ veto of the bill to make Entergy pay for it’s own costs of doing business..

The plant will close. This much is sure. It might be tomorrow if safety concerns keep rising up. Or it might be in 2012. Whatever the date, it will close someday.

Knowing that reality, the legislature worked to pass bills this year to ensure the best interest of Vermonters. We considered both the safety concerns outside the plant, as well as the economic well being of Vermonters (including workers inside the plant who might want to look at the corporate history of how entities like this actually treat their employees when things get tough).

Increasingly, it’s becoming apparent Entergy Louisiana –and this governor-don’t seem to be on the same page as Vermonters on these issues. With this governor’s veto of our bill to ensure Entergy Louisiana covers it’s own costs of doing business, Vermonters could get stuck with paying for the hundreds of millions of dollars in costs of closing the plant.

The Entergy plan to create a Limited Liability Corporation for 6 of it’s most aging nuclear plants is a thinly veiled attempt at sanctioned corporate welfare. This tactic has been all too prevalent in the corporate business climate fostered in the Bush era. Like many other cases nationwide, corporate interests are foisting their liabilities off on taxpayers, while they take the profits and run. The legislature tried to avert this scenario in Vermont and the governor vetoed the bill.
The positive aspect of this is that legislators from all over Vermont got to see that Entergy Louisiana has brought this type of corporate mindset to Vermont. A mindset which does not put the best interests of all Vermonters as priority one.

Legislators realized that and stood up for Vermonters. The governor vetoed the bill pushing the tab across the table to Vermonters. He sided with Entergy Louisiana and the corporate interests that have brought us Enron, Exxon, Love Canal and 3 Mile Island.

Legislators across Vermont now have no doubts how vigilant we need to be dealing with Entergy Louisiana. We will continue to work together, and build the bridges beyond Windham County to spread across Vermont and keep the health and economic safety of Vermonters paramount. And, with a new governor, we’ll all be working together on this.

                                              Working Hard

                                    Working Together

                              Working for You !

In the legislature, working together is the "coin of  the realm". Your current representatives have worked hard at making-and keeping - the connections to help get things done.

Naming a problem is not fixing it. The wisdom to use knowledge about an issue resides in awareness and compassion of others. As  your representatives in Montpelier, we have -and will- work hard, and work smart, to be the most effective advocates for you -whatever the issue. And, whatever the concern, from keeping what works to changing what doesn't, we  know, people are at  the heart of it all.

So,as we raise our families, take care of our parents and maybe, enjoy or look ahead to our own retirement, we  know the complexity of life today seems always present. It's just not simple and so, we can't just focus on one child in the family or one issue in the political landscape. We recognize that in the legislature and strive to give you, "full service represen tation".

In the recent session we passed bills to support agriculture, telecommunications, transportation, health care, housing, education, fair taxes, the environment, energy & protecting our children. We recognize that making Vermont affordable and keeping it liveable is essential .The big picture is about helping create a better future for us, our children & theirs.

Rep. DAVID DEEN offers a proven record of experience & accomplishment.Since 1991, David has used his time in the House to build the relationships that put him in leadership, as one of the most respected members of the House. His work on the RULES Committee and as chair of FISH, WILDLIFE & WATER RESOURCES. brings as strong a voice there is, to our environment.

Rep.MIKE MROWICKI has distinguished himself in his freshman term working hard for the many concerns important to constituents. He's especially focused on helping those less  fortunate-our vulnerable population; the very old, the very young, the disadvantaged and the disabled. In these dfficult times, his voice for others and thinking beyond ourselves represents the caring nature of Vermonters. Those who carry the torch for the Reagan-Bush2 mindset that Human Services are a  waste of taxpayer money and an effort in futility don't see to the heart of Vermonters. Vermonters are a  caring generous people who can see and share beyond thier own interests. For those  who think otherwise, well, there'd  always New Hampsire.

Rep. Mrowicki sees  that people are at  the heart of every issue and because of  that can best represent the constituents of the Windham 5 Disitrict-whatever the issue.

To do so,he's worked hard to build relationships in the House that have led to appointments on House Human Services Committee, The House Harassment Response Committee, Joint Committee on Amending Corrections System, Chief Justice*s Task Force on Corrections and as Chair of the Windham County Legislaitve Caucus.

The  days ahead have some dark clouds on the horizon, but there are good  times  ahead as well. It's easy to bang the drums of gloom and doom and rail on with the old negative politics of the past. This election locally, state and for the nation, is about  Hope, Positive  Change and a  Better  Future for All.

Together, Vermonters  can do anything. Working together, Representatives  Dean and Mrowicki will be working hard, working together and working for you, to help bring  a better  today and a brighter future for all Vermonters.
